It’s starting to feel like the summer is over and the rain has arrived in Auckland but progress in the shop keeps ticking over.

Geoff’s BMW 2002 Restomod has again made good progress with the new firewall completed and installed, the intercooler system all tacked up along with the intercooler mounting which also doubles as reinforcement for the bonnet supports. This was because we had to cut the original supports out to make room for the intercooler behind the grill. The air filter has now been connected to the turbo and we have made a start with the wiring. The engine loom is all running up under the dash and attached to two bulkhead plugs which allows quick and easy removal. This car will be running a Motec PDM (power distribution module) and Motec dash so we are currently working out how and where all the electronics are going to be mounted and where all the wiring looms will be running.

Greg has dropped off his 1964 Studebaker Hawk GT for a bit of sorting out. This car is new to him and was not driving very well when it arrived. Upon further investigation we have discovered lots of loose and missing critical bolts and the body has been solid mounted to the chassis meaning you feel every little vibration. After discussing options with the owner, we have made the call to strip down the suspension, replace all the 60 year old bushes and reassemble it correctly. We are also fitting body mount isolators and some good shocks. This should transform the way this drives and we are sure Greg will be stoked with the outcome.

Sam has his Honda powered Mini Estate in the shop currently for us to sort out the bump steer in. He has built this car himself using a kit out of the UK for the engine conversion but has got stuck trying to get the car through LV. Bump steer is the amount of toe change that the wheels exhibit from full droop to full bump. The rules dictate that it must have less than 10mm of bump steer through the entire suspension travel and when it arrived, it had about 40mm. So we are currently working on a solution for this and then he can progress on to complete the project.
