Another month has passed and with Spring on the horizon the team are looking forward to the warmer longer days.
This month started with a snap, that was the noise Dan’s wrist made we he sat on it after loosing balance on his snowboard. He’s back on the mend now thanks to a few 10G screws and a bit of 25×3 flat bar that looks like a – fork but isn’t ready for work yet, so you have a new author this month. I’ve written this whole newsletter article with my right hand in sympathy.
The shop has been busy, we dusted off the chassis jig to start another Fraser, this one is going to be powered by the Honda F20C combo, so will again be a nice build. It’s on the brazing bed now so next week it will be looking amazing with its bronze welds. All of the other components are made, so it should be off to the powder coaters shortly.
We have also got a few cars finished off and progressed.The Trabant now has licence plates after a long paperwork process. A very quirky little German car that originally came from the wrong side of the wall.
You may also spot the 1935 Ford and a happy owner with his couple of dogs cruising around Auckland. I think it’s been used everyday since it got its plates.
A very nice 1957 Chevrolet 3100 also came and went. This was a top build from Australia that we assisted the owners with the final steps to getting their dream to touch the asphalt. We are also up to plates that start with S again, I remember when plates started with S but only had two letters, it’s amazing to think how many cars have come and gone in that period. Many million I guess.
There’s the US spec Ariel Atom which arrived to be made road legal. We have done a number of UK spec cars before but this is the first US spec car. It’s running a number of US specific parts so that’s been interesting to see the differences.
The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has been making some good progress with some panelling being made to fill in the holes the engine transplant left. Next will be seating and fuel.
The new heart for the F150 arrived too, so it will be exciting to see that breathe again.
DMOFSR had an impromptu hire this week, a couple of tourists decided to make every moment count in NZ and took DMOFSR for a spin north before rushing off to find their way to the airport for their flight home that afternoon.
The yellow and cream 1971 Chevrolet C10 is so close to being finished, there’s been a couple of last minute hurdles but it’s due for its final check next week.
