Bruce asked the sole question of Q&A Round 2 – What motor would you put in a race car?

The Frasers have been racing since the very first cars, with chassis No1 spending most of its life on the track.
Fraser race cars have been powered with everything from Ford Kent engines and Toyota 18RGs, 4AGEs, 3SGEs, 2ZZs and Ford V6s and turbo and super charged variants.
Our cars have competed very successfully in a range of motorsport events whether it be gymkhanas with the local car club or the New Zealand or Australian Targa.
The common engines that are used now are the Toyota 4AGE and 3SGE, these are both available and give good performance and are also well suited to the size and style of the car.
With the newly re-organised NZ sports car series now is a great time to get into a reliable race car marque with a good pedagree and history.
If we were building a race car today, it would be hard to look past the 3SGE with its long history. There are many performance parts avaliable and it is a good reliable engine. But with new engines such as the 2ZZ or Ford Duratec offering lighter packages with more HP.  If the budget can stretch, these will be the engines in the future.
